SUMMER LEARN TO SAIL

The Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation (DIYSF) is pleased to offer summer sailing camps for both DIYC members and non-members. We run weeklong camps from June 1st through August 6th in a 10 week summer season. Check our programs below for more information and to register!  Our camps run from 9am-4pm.  Lunches are provided.  If early drop-off or late pick-up is needed it is available during registration

Shipmates

Shipmates ages 5-7 

Shipmates is a full day program (9am-4pm) designed to introduce 5-7 year old children to the world of sailing. These popular one-week sessions are designed to introduce the sailors to have fun on and around the water. Activities are designed to build confidence on the water. Children must have completed at least one year of kindergarten before the start of class.  **Please note this class requires multiple children to share a boat. Buffs/face masks will be required while on the boat.  If you have friends/family in the same camp that you are comfortable sharing a boat please notify us. 

Opti

Opti ages 8-12

Opti Beginner

Full Day (9am -4pm) One week sessions are offered for ages 8-12. Sailors will learn the basics of sailing, point of sail, parts of the boat, rigging, knots, tacking a jibing.

Opti  Level 2 

Full day program (9am -4pm). Ages 8-12. This popular program is for sailors who have taken Learn to Sail previously and are looking for something a bit more advanced. In this course, we will continue to build on all those basics as well as introducing roll tack and roll jibes along with other advanced sailing topics. Upon successful completion of this course a sailor MAY be invited to take Learn to Race. 

Opti Learn to Race (INVITATION ONLY) ages 8-12 

Full day two week session. Sailors MUST be invited by Director to register. Ages 8-12. We will further build on the basics of sailing as well as introduce sailboat racing. In this two week class we will work on racing around buoys and sailing upwind competitively. We may teach skill like footwork through tacks and jibes, speed testing against other boats and rigging the boat in a race manner. Upon completion of LTR, a sailor MAY be invited to join our green fleet team for the fall season. 

Club 420

420 Learn to Sail ages 12-17

420 beginners 

Full Day (9am -4pm) One week sessions are offered for ages 12-17. Sailors will learn the basics of sailing, point of sail, parts of the boat, rigging, knots, tacking a jibing. Sailors will be given a very basic swim check, while wearing a life jacket, to assess their comfort level in and around the water.  **Please note this class requires multiple children to share a boat.  Buffs/face masks will be required while on the boat.  If you have friends/family in the same camp that you are comfortable sharing a boat please notify us.
